About Voidforge

There are two kinds of products.

The ones that exist.

Built because they could be. The world was fine without them, and plenty of studios will make you another.

we build these

The ones that should.

Built because the world was short one. That is the work we take. For clients, and sometimes under our own name.

Why we do this.

I have spent about twenty years building software. Energy, finance, SaaS, consumer. Four ventures as co-founder and technical leader, and time inside startups like Partly, Glorious, Flicket and Bitlab, where the teams were small, the ambitions were big, and the dates did not move.

Somewhere in there I noticed there are two kinds of products. Most exist because someone could build them. A few exist because the world was short one. You can feel the difference on the first call, and only one of them is worth a year of anyone's life.

Voidforge is built around that. We only take on work we think should exist. Usually we build it for you. Sometimes we believe in it enough to take a stake and build it as if it were our own. That is how Peppr happened.

None of this is complicated. Senior people writing the code, nobody between you and them, a straight answer when you ask, and the outcome on us. It is just rarer than it should be.

We are in Dunedin. I lead the technical work. Vicky runs the business and keeps everything moving. Around us is a bench of deeply technical people we have shipped with for years.

If you are working on something that should exist, come and talk to us.

What we believe.

  • Build what should exist.

We say yes to work we believe in and no to the rest. It keeps the work good and it keeps us honest.

  • No layers.

You talk to the people doing the work. No juniors, no account managers. Decisions get made the same day, and that holds as we grow.

  • Call in people we trust.

When a build needs more hands or a deeper specialist, we bring in people we have shipped with before. In for the build. The outcome stays ours.

  • Evidence over instinct.

A prototype in your hands beats an opinion in a room. We test before we commit.

Who you work with.

Drian, founder and CTO, leads every build. Vicky runs the business and keeps everything moving. When a build needs more, we bring in specialists we have shipped with for years. Whoever is on it, you get the same two things: senior people writing the code, and a straight answer when you ask a question.

Project briefVF · 03
Standard

It has to work.

Running in production, used by real people, still standing a year later. Nobody budgets for a rebuild in eighteen months, so we build for that, not for the demo.

Priority

The mission is the brief.

We take on work we'd want to exist. Once we're in, your purpose sets the priorities, even when the thing that impresses the board is easier to build than the thing your users need. We'll say so when a plan doesn't serve it.

Bar

Senior people write the code.

The people on the first call are the people who ship. No account layer, no junior handoff once the contract is signed. You explain the problem once, to the people who'll solve it.

Team

Sized to the brief. Decided together, once we've read it.

Voidforge

A product engineering studio for people building something that matters. We ship software that works, and we care that it does.
